This time Brian has meetings in Geneva, Switzerland and I am going with him! He has wanted to take me to Italy ever since he traveled there a few years ago so we are venturing to Venice and Rome as well. We'll be in each city two (maybe three) days each.
I don't know how to DO Europe. What do I pack? What do I wear? What MUST I eat? What MUST I see? Any and all tips are needed.
I DO know that I won't be packing this guy along:

(this is Diana Carlson btw) I love Switzerland and Italy! I'm so excited for your trip. The best thing I would say is bring good walking shoes and make sure you have opportunities to eat lots of chocolate, cheese and Gelato! ENJOY! (i'll travel in your suit case too if I can!)
I'm so with you -- Doc is going to Marseilles (alone) at the end of the month; last fall, he went to Rome (alone). I have yet to go with him either.
You've given me hope that (someday) I may be able to go with him too.
How exciting!! I've never been to Europe before so I don't really have any advice. I'd say take lots of pictures and don't worry about calories. Just enjoy the food!
Julie.. I'm sooooo excited for you... have a wonderful trip!
How wonderful! At least you HAVE a passport! I'm still trying to get around to getting one {then maybe I'll leave the country!}. Have a great time.
Warmly, Michelle
The cat is cracking me up! Wow, what to pack? That's a tough one. How about comfortable shoes as you'll be doing a lot of walking. The weather is humid this time of year so summer clothes.
You're going to EUROPE!!! Have fun and take lots of pictures!!
That is SO exciting! I can't wait to see what pictures you get and see what you do and where you go!
And I love the cat in the bag. :)
Yes, good walking shoes, AND make sure you bring a light rain jacket. I wish I could remember the wonderful pastry shops I went to, but just take a gander in every single one so you can form an opinion! There's lots to see! My sister knows Geneva well. I'll ask her about that. But the other places have obvious attractions to go to!
How exciting!
Good, comfortable shoes are most important. And a light rain jacket with a hood!
Have fun...
=)
That is exciting! I'm so happy you get to go!!
We toured Europe for the second time 2 years ago for our
25th Wedding Anniversary and as part of that we went all over Italy. I absolutely LOVED Venice - it is completely romantic! The key in Venice is getting a nice hotel with a nice view! Also, there are so many little Trattoria's in Venice that are so lovely and great for people watching. I hope you love fish because it is SO fresh in Italy.
Rome is spectacular - there is so much to see it is almost overwhelming - Do not miss the Trevi fountain and the old city!
Eat lots and lots of gelato and have fun!!
You can check out our trip on my blog 2 years ago (June) if you want to see some of what you might be seeing to plan.
OHHHH I am so excited for you!!!!!!
How fun, I am so happy for you! I think the cat really wants to go too though. I was packing like that once and turned around to find my little dog in my bag and I knew he wanted to go with me. I didn't know pass ports expire, took mine in to renew my drivers license and it had expired. Wish I was going somewhere exciting..have a great trip! :D
YAHOO!!! A stamp in your passport!! I'm so glad you get to go on such a fun trip, and at such a perfect time of year, too. I've never been to Italy or Switzerland, so I have no advice, except to just enjoy every single second you're there!!
Have a GREAT time, Julie!!
I am so excited for you!!!!
Totally excited!
I have no idea what to tell you to pack. I got my very first passport a couple of months ago, ya know just in case. Well, it is unused and no plans to use it either.
I think I'm gonna squeal for you though!
What a fun dream come true. Never been so I can't help you with advice, but have fun for me while you're there. :)
My only advice is take lots of hand sanitizer and don't get sick! ;)
Kidding aside~ what a wonderful opportunity. Hope you have a fabulous time and post lots of pictures for us to ooh and ahh over!
Never been to Europe, but it sounds like fun. Have a GREAT time!
A power converter and adapter. Got to have them.
I am SO happy for you, Julie. Have a wonderful time. You are so good with the camera, so I can't wait to see your photos. We packed along some trail mix, breakfast bars, etc. What we really could have used was a case or two of bottled water. We went in early September. It was quite toasty. And DO NOT pass up a Gelati stand. Lemon was my personal fav.
Buon Biaggio!
Sorry...Viaggio! B is too close to the V. =)
Comfy sandals....
That is exciting travel news, enjoy every minute!
How exciting!!! I don't have any travel trips except to take your camera and lots and lots of pictures! I want to see it all when you come back!
Lucky you! When traveling abroad I learned to dress in layers and be prepared for unexpected weather changes. Have a blast!
Oh, wow, how much fun. I too have not made any of those trips. Still hoping.
