I had no idea there were so many different species of woodpeckers, especially ones residing in Utah. These look like Downy Woodpeckers to me. (Sally, am I right?)
They were tricky to photograph. The male, in particular, was quite elusive.
The female appears to stay close to the nest. I assume there is a nest hidden within that knotty trunk. We shall see.
Even though their home isn't that far off the ground, Linus is oblivious, and that's just fine with me.

Those are amazing shots Julie! I love the one with the head poking out of the tree. Thanks for sharing that. What beautiful birds they are. :)

Those are such beautiful photos!
Hi Julie, I can't believe your little visitors! Are they loud? You take wonderful pictures by the way! And your kitty is very well behaved!
THANK YOU for your sweet comment tonight - I was hesitant to publish that post and have revised it 10 times since! :) Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
Holy cow Julie! Those pictures are awesome! How long did you have to wait around to get those?
What beautiful birds...whatever they are! I love him peeking his head out the hole...they fit in to the tiniest spots.
I hope Linus stays oblivious. :)
Those are some gorgeous pictures!
I love woodpeckers.
Love the birds and the picture! Nice work-
There was a woodpecker outside our window this morning that looked like this guy.
Wow I have to agree - Those are really some sensational shots you took. I love that you got him pecking his hole and sitting in it. Soooo cool!
Linus is BEAUTIFUL!
I do love cats though.
I didn't know all that about the birds either.
Beautiful!
Great pictures! I love her nest when her head is poking out! WOW! Does that do permanent damage to the tree? Last year {for the first time ever, I do live in the desert} I heard pecking and found one in my big oak tree! I was amazed!
Great images! I'm sure they weren't easy to get!
What amazing photos. Love it!
Warmly, Michelle
Wow, those are so neat! Love the cat too. :o)
