I love when my 15-year-old unplugs himself from the PS3 and the TV and hones his creative skills.
All week the bar in my kitchen has been littered with artistic debris. I surprised myself with my tolerance and pushed the mess aside whenever we needed the space.
Note the satellite dish and missiles.
Engineering is now his career of choice. (In years past Travis' aspirations included being an architect, an orthopedic surgeon, or a pilot.)
In the meantime, however, we have plenty of popsicle sticks and toothpicks to keep him occupied.

I hear ya ! I love when my boys take a break from all their gaming systems and use their creativeness !! Love what they did with the popsicle sticks :)
So this was just for fun? Just for the sake of creating? I love it!
If any teenager unplugs and crafts, I say....clear the entire room! Make way for a month if possible!

Does He go in spurts? Our guys here have totally been into paper airplanes the last few days. I made everyone pick up 5 to throw away on Saturday and there were still some left out. Don't know what sparks the creative/exploratory days but I sure love them, too.
Engineering is pretty popular at our house, too. Do you know that the high school has a whole course of concurrent enrollment classes from drafting on up? I think Erica is graduating with enough training to get a job as a CAD designer in May. Spencer is starting the process. Both have loved it so far.
isn't it amazing what can be done when not in front of the tv? i love your sons creativity. an engineer in the making.

Wow...that's really something. I am impressed he made a tank, but I am really impressed he chose to be creative all on his own. And great job to mom for providing the outlet!
Before you even said it I was thinking "an engineer in the making!" Two of my boys were just like that! (now an engineer and studying to be one!)

This is so cool! My boys used to enjoy crafts. Now they're both software engineers.
Your son might also enjoy toothpick puzzles, since he has good spacial skills.
